Mental health support
Just as we take care of our physical well-being, it is crucial to prioritize our mental well-being.
As a member of the Parachute Regiment or Airborne Forces, you become a part of our family for life and we are here to support you through all challenges. Our goal is to offer aid, guidance, and lifelong camaraderie to serving soldiers, veterans and their families. Remember, asking for help is not a sign of weakness. SUPPORT OUR PARAS is here to assist you, just as you have served us.
Our Welfare and Transition team provide assistance when required to serving personnel, their
families and veterans.
We assist the successful transition of soldiers who are medically discharged in conjunction with Personnel Recovery Units (PRUs) and the Battalions; SUPPORT OUR PARAS can offer additional funding on top of that offered by the MOD to assist personnel to transition into their new civilian career. We aim to ensure that all medically discharged personnel leave the Army with the same opportunities for success, appropriate to aspirations, injury or illness and employment availability.
Our Career Transition Officer (CTO) supports serving personnel who are leaving The Parachute Regiment, assisting them in preparing for their civilian lives. This is done in conjunction with the Battalions. The CTO offers follow up post last day of service and can assist veterans with employment opportunities. Please contact our Career Transition Officer if you have any queries.
If you are a serving within The Parachute Regiment and require mental health support, please speak with your Medical Officer in the first instance. If deemed appropriate, they can refer you to the Department of Community Mental Health (DCMH).
Our welfare team also supports the families of the fallen from the moment of loss and beyond. Our NOK are welcome to attend the annual National Memorial Arboretum and St Lawrence Jewry memorial services.
Wider welfare support is available to all veterans of The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces and their dependents. If you require financial assistance, please contact either SSAFA or the Royal British Legion who will be able to appoint you a caseworker to assess your needs. Once this has been established, the caseworker will send an electronic request for assistance to us at SUPPORT OUR PARAS and if eligible, a grant will be issued from us. If you have any queries about this process, please get in touch with our Welfare Manager by emailing wm@supportourparas.org or phoning 07340 347136.
If you are a veteran and require routine mental health support, please contact our Head of Welfare.
In the event of a mental health emergency, please speak to your GP, A&E department, Police or call an ambulance.
