moneycorp Trading Day

On November 23,  in association with City AM hosted a day for ‘Support Our Paras’ where a number of injured Paras paired up with moneycorp dealers.

Traders got the opportunity to speak to the Paras about their time in the regiment and about some of the experiences they have had.  Lt Gen Sir John Lorimer, Colonel Commandant of The Parachute Regiment, also came down to join the guys at the moneycorp offices.

The day was organised to raise awareness and funds for the Charity supporting our soldiers and families.  You can add your support by visiting the moneycorp Support Our Paras page.

Clocking up the Miles to Support our Paras

He’s at it again!  Following the success of his 85 mile walk for his 85th birthday, Jeffrey Long MBE, 12th Bn PARA veteran and PRA member celebrated his 86th birthday with an 86 mile walk to Support our Paras.

Jeffrey set off at the end of October from the Thames Barrier and made his way along the Thames Path, clocking up 86 miles along the way.

He completed the walk in just 8 days and was joined by a variety of supporters along the way, including Diana Moran.

This year’s event is his third consecutive birthday walk, after Jeffrey did 84 miles along Hadrian’s Wall for his 84th birthday and 85 miles along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal for his 85th birthday.

There’s still time to support Jeffrey, please visit his fundraising page.

The Paras – From The Falklands to Afghanistan in their own words

The soldiers of one of the world’s most famous fighting forces, the Paras, tell the gripping story of the regiment in their own words.

Tough, highly adaptable and efficient, The Parachute Regiment has established itself as one of the finest fighting forces in the world. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of its founding, renowned historian Max Arthur has compiled this enthralling oral history of the modern Parachute Regiment.

This unique chronicle is told through the voices of more than a hundred of the soldiers themselves, and of those involved closely with them. Whether in the Falklands, Kosovo, Iraq, Sierra Leone or Afghanistan, the Paras have maintained their reputation for being where the fighting is fiercest and where the odds of survival are often stacked heavily against them.

The gripping, visceral first-person narrative makes The Paras stand apart from conventional regimental histories as one of the most remarkable accounts of conflict ever published.

Max Arthur’s new book The Paras is available to buy now from all good bookshops and online retailers.

Community works together to support our Paras

Support Our Paras would like to say a very big thank you to Mr Stephen Brabham and the wonderful locals of Stannington for the very generous donation they have recently sent us.

Locals from Stannington as well as civilians attached to South Yorkshire Police helped to raise £1,000 for the charity, which we were very grateful to receive this week.

The donations that we receive as a charity mean that we are able to continue supporting The Parachute Regiment through the welfare of serving soldiers and families, and those affected by recent operations.  Donations are also used to provide welfare assistance to serving soldiers and families to complement or fill the gaps in state provision, as well as supporting vital aspects of the Regiment’s daily life and history.

A very big thank you to all those involved in raising this great amount!
